Lionheart Farms' social impact

The host community within the ancestral domain were among the poorest in the country before the project began. In recognition of this the provincial government of Palawan and the Philippine Coconut Authority jointly hosted investor conferences and other initiatives to attract investments in areas such as Rizal Municipality; Lionheart’s project was viewed positively by the community, the provincial government and PCA, not least because the Lionheart model is very labour intensive. In a Free and Prior Informed Consent survey (“FPIC”) conducted by the National Committee for Indigenous Peoples (“NCIP”) in September 2019, the host community respondents voted in favour of the project with a majority of 99.7%.

Lionheart Farms' Carbon Removal Credits

A carbon credit feasibility study conducted in April 2022 by Climate Resource Exchange International (“CRX”) in conjunction with IORA Ecological Solutions (“IORA”) concluded that each of Lionheart’s palms remove and store (“R&S”) just under 0.5 ton of CO2 per year when mature, using CDM AR-ACM0003 methodology. Lionheart originally filed for registration at Verra in June 2022, but took a wait and see position while the carbon credit markets went through a reset. The project is now back in the official pipeline using VM0047 methodology; Validation and Verification Body (“VVB”) is engaged, and the Public Comment Period was completed without comments on October 31.
